Senior Hardware Engineer
Engineering - Toronto, Ontario

Kepler is changing the face of satellite communications by launching a constellation of telecommunication nanosatellites! With the recent success of our Series A funding, a handful of early customers, and our first satellite in orbit, Kepler is currently doubling in size!

We invest heavily to deliver the best products to our customers, and so we’re on the hunt for a top-tier Senior Hardware Engineer to develop Kepler’s satellite connectivity IoT product.

You will be the main engineer for Kepler’s satellite connectivity IoT product owning the full design, characterization, manufacturing, test, and deployment including field trials with our spacecraft.

As part of this, you will play a key role in defining the high-level specifications including for example, price, power consumption, concept of operations and RF performance.

Important themes will include an agile mindset, experience with or the ability to quickly ramp up on RF, signal processing, manufacturing and test.

Position Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience building complex and/or highly constrained boards (technically complex side projects count). We are looking for people who can build hard things quickly and work their way through the inevitable roadblocks
  • You have experience on most if not all parts of the PCB/product lifecycle: Requirements definition, architecture trades, parts selection, schematic, layout, suppliers/manufacturing, board bring up test and characterization. You are comfortable spending a day soldering 0402s, and know who the best board shop in town is
  • Familiar with most standard tools of the trade: EDA (Altium, Cadence, etc.), SPICE/HyperLynx/ADS/HFSS/CST, test equipment, you can write a few lines of Python/C/etc. when needed
  • Comfortable with computers: You’re not afraid to hack on a buggy code base, or write some python to automate a task
  • You've owned a significant part of the design and lifecycle on at least one product on the market. In particular, you have experience optimizing for cost and working with contract manufacturers

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with specification, design, manufacture, and test of RF products
  • Experience working with suppliers and the care and feeding of highly integrated RF chipsets (e.g. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, satellite)
  • Competent with most common test equipment: you know how to probe a multi-ghz clock, can think of at least a couple ways of measuring current, know what the resolution bandwidth of a spectrum analyzer is
  • You love what you do: you have your ham radio license, a home lab, and lead a student design team in Uni (cars, drones, rockets, etc.)
