Hardware Engineer

Job Role

At Kepler, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a small dedicated team of engineers building the Kepler spacecraft. You will design different subsystem PCBs from schematics to layout with a focus on implementing Software Defined Radios (SDR)s. Day to day you will interface with RF, antenna, FPGA, and DSP engineers on your team to identify timing paths and layout constraints. A solid understanding of the entire communications chain from coding to decoding and everything in between will make a candidate stand out.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 2+ yr. experience with RF Circuit design
  • 1+ yr. experience with radio related test equipment (signal analyzers, network analyzers)
  • Experience with digital communication theory with emphasis on Bit Error Rate, EVM and System Noise Figure calculation
  • Hands on experience testing and assembling PCBs

Preferred Skills

  • Masters of Science in electrical engineering with emphasis in RF electronics
  • Schematic and layout using Altium Designer or other PCB design tool
  • RF/microwave design using Agilent ADS, Genesys, HFSS, or AWR Microwave Office
  • Understanding of link budgets and RF system noise analysis
  • Experience with designing and implementing of analog, digital or mixed-signal circuit boards from concept through production using operational amplifiers, filters, and transistors, analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components, multi-GHz SERDES, DRAM interfaces (DDR4), CAN, I2C, Ethernet, SPI, FPGAs, ASICs, and processors
  • Understanding of thermal design principles and power dissipation
  • Excellent scripting skills (Tcl, csh/bash, Perl, Python etc.)
  • Relevant experience in a hobby or University design team (e.g. FSAE, SAE, Combat Robot etc.)
